Four-gallon brown-glazed Southern stoneware churn, cylindrical with flared collar and one strap and one lug handle, stamped "O. Henry Pottery" and with incised "4" at side of strap handle; c. 1937-1951; 15 3/4"H; good condition---O. Henry Pottery operated in Valdese and Connelly Springs, North Carolina, c. 1937-1951. The pottery was named after the North Carolina author, William Sydney Porter, whose pen name was O. Henry. The chief potter at the O. Henry shop was Evan Javan Brown (1897-1980). (Ref. 164-1)
